Use the Variance Request Form below to apply for an irrigation variance to establish new landscaping or for a health/safety power washing variance during water restrictions.

     Irrigation variances will be granted for five weeks under Stage 1 and three weeks under Stage 2 and Stage 3, from the date that the landscaping is installed. Within 24 hours, or the next business day after sending the variance request, you will receive an email containing a letter with the establishment schedule for the new landscape and a sign to print and display prominently at the location to be visible to water enforcement officers and passersby to let them know there is an irrigation variance in place.  Due to staffing limitations, variance requests received after 4:00pm will be processed the next business day.

• Stage 2 and 3 Irrigation Variances will be issued for NEW LANDSCAPES ONLY, not for replacements due to drought loss.
• Water runoff and waste resulting from the use of sprinklers, soaker hoses, or other means is not permitted and could result in revocation of the variance and issuance of a water waste citation.
• High water bills resulting from irrigation of the new landscape while the variance is active are the responsibility of the account holder.
• Irrigation variances are not granted to overseed existing turfgrass areas with rye or other grasses.

** Irrigation variances will NOT be granted to allow sprinkler watering during non-sprinkler hours. Water by hand in the middle of the day. For questions, please call 210-357-5705.

SAFE FOR PLAY VARIANCES - Schools with sports fields that are being irrigated to maintain a safe playing surface for student-athletes must submit a conservation plan and request a safe-for play variance when restrictions are enacted.  Please call 210-357-5705 for more information.  PLEASE DO NOT REQUEST A SAFE FOR PLAY VARIANCE THROUGH THE WEBSITE.    

This form may also be used to request a power washing variance.  Power washing variance requests require documentation that there is an actual health or safety reason for the power washing need or other reason.
