Now that BexarMet is part of San Antonio Water System, what happens next?

  1. Year-round restrictions are in effect whenever the Edwards Aquifer is above 660.0 feet above mean sea level.
  2. These restrictions apply to all BexarMet residential and commercial customers.
  3. Landscape watering with an irrigation system or sprinkler is permitted any day of the week before 10:00am and after 8:00pm.
NOTE: An unattended hose is considered a type of sprinkler. This is also a City of San Antonio Ordinance.
  1. Watering with a bucket, soaker hose, hand-held hose or drip irrigation system is permitted any time on any day. Watering by hand means that the hose, regardless of attachment, must be held in the person's hand at all times while water is being applied to specific areas.  Once a hose is laid down, but allowed to run, it is considered a sprinkler and subject to sprinkler rules.
  2. Water waste is prohibited at all times. Waste includes, but is not limited to: allowing overflow of irrigation water into gutters, ditches or drains, or failing to repair a controllable leak within 10 days of being notified by BexarMet of the condition. Failure to do so may result in activation of the BexarMet Occupant Leak Policy and a potential interruption of service and water waste fine.
  3. Washing impervious cover such as parking lots, driveways, streets or sidewalks is discouraged, but water used for these purposes shall not be allowed to leave the premises, or it is considered waste.
  4. Non-commercial washing of vehicles at a business or residence is permitted any time. An automatic shut-off nozzle and bucket must be used to reduce waste of water. Special care should be made to prevent runoff down the street as much as possible.
  5. Washing vehicles at commercial facilities is permitted any day and any time.
  6. Charity Car Washes are only permitted to occur at commercial car washing facilities.

Once the Edwards aquifer level reaches 660.0 feet above mean sea level, STAGE 1 restrictions will be enacted.
