Qualifications for Candidates
Qualifications to be a candidate are found in §141.001 of the Texas Election Code and include generally the following:
1) must be a U.S. Citizen;
2) must be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled;
3) must be a registered voter living within the boundaries of the Single Member District for which application is made;
4) have not been determined mentally incompetent by a final judgement of a court;
5) have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities;
6) must have been a resident of the State of Texas for twelve (12) months and a resident of the Single Member District for which application is made for six (6) months prior to August 26, 2008.
