Green for Green Rebate

Green for Green Rebate

  • The drought of 2008-09 has brought the importance of drought tolerant landscapes to the forefront.  Having a landscape that can survive on little water is essential in San Antonio.
  • In urban areas, 40 to 60 percent of water used during the summer is for landscape and garden watering. Much of this water is used to maintain landscapes that demand large amounts of water, or the water is simply applied inefficiently.
  • Customers can turn their landscape from water-loving to water-efficient and receive a rebate from $100 to $300.
  • Water consumption between July and September before and after the landscape conversion are used to calculate the rebate.

NEW INFORMATION FOR 2009
Customers who choose to replace at least 20% of their turf with low/no water use landscaping have the following options:

  • Replace turf with xeriscape plants or landscape beds.
  • Replace turf with decking or pavers.
  • Other materials will be considered on a case-by-case basis, but should be reviewed before the landscape conversion is made.

PLEASE NOTE:  Consider homeowner association restrictions on landscaping prior to beginning the conversion.  If an installation is made and the HOA requires that it be removed because of a convenant violation and replaced with turf, the rebate will not be provided.
