Straight Connections
On February 27, 2006, the BexarMet Board of Directors increased the fine for straight connections at water meter connections from $100 to $1000 in new development. A straight connection is identified as a connection to a curb stop valve without a meter and register in place. In some instances, registers are removed from meters as a means to use water without accountability.

Unmetered Use of Fire Hydrants
On March 27, 2006, the BexarMet Board of Directors established a $2,500 fine for unmetered use of water from a fire hydrant by unauthorized entities. A fire hydrant meter issued by BexarMet is chained to the requested hydrant and is not moved unless requested by the approved user. Meters on fire hydrants protect the water supply in the distribution system from potential contaminants in the tanks of water trucks and other entities. Fire hydrant meters issued by the San Antonio Water System (SAWS) are not to be used on BexarMet hydrants at any time.
