BexarMet Water Waste Rules
Overview:
- Watering with any type of sprinkler (automatic or hose-end) between the hours of 10:00am and 8:00pm is prohibited year-round.
- Watering with a hand-held hose, bucket or drip irrigation system is allowed any time on any day.
(An unattended water hose is considered the same as a sprinkler.) - BexarMet adopts the Edwards Aquifer Management Plan Stages 1 to 3 during critical periods.
- Water waste of any kind will not be tolerated.
- Commercial dining establishments will serve water only upon request.
- Beginning June 1, 2006, all automatic sprinkler systems are required to be equipped with rain sensors. Check out the BexarMet Rain Sense Rebate for installing a rain sensor on your sprinkler system.
- New sprinkler installations have a minimum area and sprinkler flow requirement.
- The BexarMet Demand Management Plan will be activated during water shortages or emergencies.
- Violations of these rules and other forms of water waste will receive ONE written warning, followed by fines for additional violations if witnessed by a BexarMet representative.
- After one warning, the first violation carries a $100 fine.
- The second violation carries a $250 fine.
- The third and all subsequent violations carries a $1000 fine per offense.
